People with smaller setups really enjoy the people that call fairly rare
dx and then say oh we worked the other day, I just wanted to say hi and
I was checking the propagation or some BS and taking away a chance for
someone else to get a contact. As Jim explained on 6m there is no
guarantees to anything. You can be 50 miles north or south of a station
working the station you need and you can't hear it. The magic band is
quite challenging.
As for FT modes. Many of will reset our dupe counters every year. I
can see this being an issue with that specific contest. There are no
answers. I really do not want to work the same bots 20 times a day or a
week or even a year on the same band and mode.

Except during contests, why would you want to "avoid dupes"?
Seriously, why?
Hi Hans,
Not everyone is into casual operation. Have you spent serious time on
6M chasing rare US grids for the very tough FFMA Award? I've been
chasing it for 19 years, need 11 very rare ones where no one lives,
and at 83, don't live long enough to finish. It's like at DX
conventions and the last men standing need to be helped out of their
chairs. Openings to the grids I need may last only 5 minutes, needing
two or three hops of Es. VERY well equipped expeditions have gone to
these places for a week or two and I haven't had an opening. For one
that it worked, it was in the last hour of a week-long stand. This was
to uninhabited parts of ME, and I'm near SF. I missed the other grid
where he was for a week. And I missed a similarly well equipped trip
to a grid on the VE border where no one lives. There have been years
when I've had NO openings to W1. This is what W0MU is talking about.
