On 6m we try not to dupe stations especially if the band is really
open. If the band is spotlighted then we might work a station to let
them know they are getting out.
Contests are a different animal. A dupe could be calling because the
1st contact was a bust on their end. I work everyone and move on. It
is faster.

Yes, I agree. I will work anyone who calls me, whether I'm in a
contest or not. Recently, I had someone call me on the came band and
mode several times within a week. No problem. I worked him every time.
Incidentally, I hadn't been calling CQ. He called me after I worked
someone else.

I have seen the same thing both in contesting and in day to day
operating. Given that a FT8/FT4 QSO is going to last a minute or
less, and logging is electronic, I have never understood this
reasoning behind setting up the program to not see or avoid stations
you have worked before? Is a dupe that big of a deal? The other
station might be running a contest, as you point out, or need your
country for a DX Marathon point for that year. I have worked
stations numerous times on the same band with FT8 and don't see what
the big deal is.
