I have the David Clark H10-13.4 phones in addition to several Heil sets. I
gave up on the electret mic after a lot of tinkering and just ran a new
small audio cable to the existing mic housing and hardwired a Heil cartridge
onto the stock Clark mic support. The extra cable is tied to the existing
one so not much difference and the radio EQ matches if I want to switch from
the Clark to the Heils. Tommy WD4K

Mike,

I picked up one of these headsets on eBay earlier this year for a song (it
was listed in the wrong section!). Have yet to try the mic though (operate
mostly CW). I was after good external attenuation and they really excel in
this area.

My rig(s) are Icoms (IC765 7 IC 730)which need present 600 ohm mic i/p.

As soon as I find a suitable socket for the mic plug (any ideas where I can
get one?) I'll give it a try. I don't want to cut the plug off just yet as
that would ruin any resale value on the head set.

Has anyone had any luck getting decent audio from
the stock electret microphone element in the David
Clark H10-40 Headset? I got decent audio from mine
using my Ten-Tec Paragon, but when I tried it
with a TS-950 it sounded awful (very distorted).
In both cases I was using 12V DC bias with a 1.8K
series resistor, and a 47uF blocking capacitor to
power the electret mic. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike, W4EF

Mike,

You can get the mic jacks from the RF connection:

http://www.therfc.com/micconn.htm

The 3/16PJ Drake/Collins Mic Jack is the one you
want.

I mounted the jack in a small plastic case along with
a 1/4 mono jack for the headphones. I use a pair of
paralleled audio transformers in the plastic box to
combine a stereo input source into a composite
mono signal so I can use the unmodified headset
with a single op 2 radio setup. The plastic case also
houses the bias circuit for the electret microphone.
Now if I could just get it biased right to work with
the TS-950S, I would be all set.

I worked G3BJ, who was giving "R1". I assumed that they were some
sort of IARU representative stations for their respective ITU Regions?

From the rules: "Members of the IARU Administrative Council and the three
IARU regional Executive committees send "AC," "R1,""R2," and "R3" as
appropriate.... 8. Multipliers: The total number of ITU zones plus IARU
member society HQ stations worked on each band (not mode.) IARU officials
represent a maximum of four multipliers per band (AC, R1, R2 and R3)."

 From the IARU Rules:

8. Multipliers: The total number of ITU zones plus IARU member society
HQ stations worked on each band (not mode.) IARU officials represent a
maximum of four multipliers per band (AC, R1, R2 and R3).

Just because a rule may be unenforceable doesn't mean it has no value. Many
rules are completely unenforceable yet are valued by honorable operators as
guidelines to operating in an ethical manner. (I mean, how many stations of
a certain Mediterranean country really are running only 400 watts? Does that
mean that rules demanding compliance with national regulations are void?)

Post-contest corrections based on real-time notes (you realized as you hit
enter that the call was KR2Q, not KR23Q but your rate was such you couldn't
edit it then so you left yourself a note) are not wrong. The note you left
yourself is a part of the log. (Catching KR23Q while reading the log later
is also only finding a valid typo. I wouldn't consider changing it then to
be wrong, either. This ain't typing class, folks.)

If the sponsors don't wish honorable operators to record their contests and
use the recordings for post-contest cheating, they should say so, regardless
of whether the rule is enforceable.

Has anyone read the rules?

5. Contest Exchange:

5.1. IARU member society HQ stations send signal report and official IARU
member society abbreviation. IARU International Secretariat club station
NU1AW counts as a HQ station. Members of the IARU Administrative Council and
the three IARU regional Executive committees send "AC," "R1,""R2," and "R3"
as appropriate.

5.2. All others send signal report and ITU zone.

5.3 A complete exchange must be logged for each valid QSO.

....

8. Multipliers: The total number of ITU zones plus IARU member society HQ
stations worked on each band (not mode.) IARU officials represent a maximum
of four multipliers per band (AC, R1, R2 and R3).

Can someone e-mail me privately the required format for this NCJ
contest. I used MMTTY barefoot
and it doesn't output a useable log. If I can create one with an
editor, I may try it, but it's a hefty log..
Need to know basically what column each of the required fields use.
