If you grab a GS35b or GS31b and have a close look at the way it is 
constructed, you'll see that the use of a soldering iron on the 
heater/cathode connection points will not damage the tube or the seals 
in any way.

Soldering those wires on there is as simple, economical and effective as 
it gets. One could argue that doing it any other way is silly overkill.
