I've been following the filter cap thread a bit just because I  guess.

For right or wrong, the PS I built last year has 5 x 500V 490uF caps that seems 
to be fine for my 2488 no load 3cx800 ps.  There was one reason I chose to use 
those caps, I got them for free as samples along with all the rectifier diodes.
