Yes it sure can "take off". I did experiment with a few
diffrent ways of grounding the grids. Last version was
I ran the ground strap trough the little slot next to
the grid pin on the side of the socket (EIMAC plastic
socket). Did this to get the shortest possible ground
strap in order to introduce as little inductance as
possible. This was not the single point ground method.
Also as Carl writes I had a glitch R and I did NOT skimp
on the bypass.
This last version worked very good 160-10. I had about
5.5 kV on it and with 200W drive it did put out 5-6 kW
on all bands.
Sometimes I regret I took those tubes out of service a
couple years ago, they sure did glow nice in the dark.
I ran 4-1000A tubes for over 35 years and as I said
I do miss them sometimes.
