Now that we are off the subject I'd like to correct one miss
conception. Ringing is part of the nature of band pass filtering. As you
reduce the band width the rise and fall time of the output increases. And
if you reduce the bandwidth to a few Hertz it produces a long rise and fall
time. The long fall time is often referred to as ringing. For this very
reason you can reduce the band with of a filter such that you can pick out
the carrier of an AM signal without the hint of modulation. Also, if you
put a pulse or burst into a narrow bandpass filter it will be convoluted
into a long much but smaller in amplitude burst.
