Which brings us right back to the conclusion that these switches
are inferior. At these current levels, contact faces get some wear
and tear and contact resistance varies.
The plastic housing that retains the fixed contacts is
easily melted and the moving parts wear easily, and the ground
connection for the pilot lamp makes for fireworks as soon as the
switch either melts or falls apart.
Externally switching the amp or step start would extend the life
of these switches, but if there is any increase in contact resistance
it will still blow it's guts in your lap. If there was room in the
cabinet, a breaker switch might be far superior and safer.
