If you knew some of the horror stories about semi-conductor processing, you
wouldn't be quite so sure about the uniformity!

Seriously, the variation in parameters of devices from opposite sides of a
wafer can be quite surprising, although we are talking of large geometry for
diodes, where it isn't nearly as bad as in the really small RF transistor
geometries.
