If we can have a seperate class for high power and one for low power then
we can of course have a seperate class for one radio and more than one radio.
Of course we could also have a class for Multi-radios and multi-operators
and we have it some cases three. Multi-Single which has a 10 minute rule,
Multi-2, which has a two transmitter rule, and Multi-multi which has
neither restriction. You will note that the CHIEF DIFFERENCE AMONG THE
THREE CLASSES OF MULTI-OPERATION ARE NOT THE NUMBER OF OPERATORS, NOR THE
ANTENNAS BUT THE NUMBER, QUANITY OF RADIOS.
Classes in contests are made not to level the playing field, nor to say,
"you're different", but rather just to have some seperation for some reason
or other. In the case of RTTY as I have stated earlier today there were
Power classes added to increase participation. That is the only reason and
no other. And as I am the one who looked at some CW and SSB contests and
decided it might be neat I will take full credit, or then again, maybe it
was Hal who thought of that one.
You do, however, need to realize that for Don to claim poor antennas is a
total crock of crap. Don has poor antennas like Barry lives on the West
Coast. And my good friend Barry lives in PA, enters only DX contests,
which he has a distinct advantage in winning. Of course he will tell you
next about my secret of two VFO's. Oh I see that post just came in, but
then again I have been writing about it for a long time.
We can of course have another class in the NAQP, and we can do so quite
easily, all that has to be done is for the contest manager in conjunction
with the sponser to decide it and print new rules. Just look at BARTG
Spring contest rules, they have a five minute rule and the SOE rule.
Frankly, I don't really care about changing rules for any of the current
contests, if I was the manager I wouldn't add more catagories, however, I
am not the manager nor am I the sponsor of any contests, but rules are made
to be changed. BTW, the BARTG method of change is far easier, a five
minute rule. Same thing happened to M/S and the 10 minute rule. Easy to
implement, no new class, just a rule that makes certain things happen. Now
start that discussion and watch 'em howl, then again, one can go back and
read all about it I suspect back when it was implemented. Hay Ty, Barry,
whatcha think about a five minute rule ? Heh heh.
G4SKA can probably comment about what led to the BARTG contest changes, I
doubt it has hurt participation any.
