I've read with interest the contributions from N6TV, VE7CC and N2QT. I
think they are all right on target. I'm sure that the posting of
"non-CQ" spots is one major cause of totally bogus (from the HF
perspective) spots, ones reflecting the callsign of the station that the
CQing station is working, as well as any other transmissions that
somehow don't meet the CQer criteria.
It might be useful to distinguish between bad spots that mis-copy one or
more characters of the call and spots of legitimate but "non-CQ"
callsigns. I suspect that Mark's message about local causes of bad spots
deals mostly with the former. "Aggressive" validation should help, but
perhaps at the cost of missing some legitimate spots.
Should we be re-thinking allowing non-CQ 6-meter spots to be posted to
the RBN? What are the pros and cons?
