Hy Gain??? Big change!!
I read the reviews of the TH3Mk4 on eham, but dismissed them. I thought
"It's still HyGain!"
I planned to replace my old TH3.
The first one was a mess....elements would not even fit together
properly. I could have machined it, and made it work..but not for that
kind of money....got it replaced, and that one had traps that shook like
a rattle. Who knows what was shaking around inside there. Kind of like
an MFJ tuner....loose junk inside!!
Anyway. I returned the second one, and spent a few weekends refurbishing
my old, original TH3....which is up there now. Don't know what I'll
replace it with if I have to...hoping I can just keep resurrecting it!!

I haven't noticed any significant change in the HyGain product since being
acquired by Mississippi based MFJ... I'm a Mississippian and am proud to have
them manufactured in our state. Several of our club members use them and they
have been no problem....pretty much the same for the antenna rotors....still a
decent product at its price point.

Bill....Yes, it depends on whose viewpoint.
The product with HyGain stamped on it remains doors open, but
as a potential source for a new antenna for me...they are
out-of-business...doors closed. (sadly).

It sounds to me as if the recent retirement of the founding, and presumably
only, shareholders is behind this. They needed a way to liquidate their
investment and provide for management going forward, a very common problem
of closely held businesses. I'd guess this is the "exit strategy" for the
TenTec owners.

The company. Not necessarily the product line(s).
You might see, for example, something like "Ten-Tec, A Division of RF
Concepts". But I just can't see the merged firm throwing away the
reputation and corporate Good Will that comes with the Ten-Tec brand name.

added Seedman,
"Under the RF Concepts banner"? Does that mean the TenTec brand is
disappearing? (Can we anticipate an "RF Concepts Orion 3"?
