Good info Mike. Thanks. Nice to know the new formula is "current
technology" and can be used on most all substances without harm. I presume
the "5" in the designators is the 5% solution which is most adequate.
As stated earlier, my two bottles are 20+ years old and are the "100 proof"
formulations. I dilute with Freon TF for quick applications.

Subject: [TenTec] Cramolin, etc.
Cramolin was manufactured by Caig Laboratories. Ten-Tec used two iterations,
the Red can was the contact cleaner and the Blue can was the
lubricant/preservative. They still make similar stuff.
Current Equivalents:
Old Red Can = DeoxIT® DN5 Spray
Old Blue Can = DeoxIT® SHIELD SN5 Spray
It is IMPORTANT to note that each formulation has the letter "N" in its part
number. That denotes the Non drip - Quick Dry Sprays which are SAFE ON
PLASTICS.
Here is a product info sheet: http://bit.ly/PfCV9u I suggest you avoid
their "Standard Sprays," which can attack plastics.
You can order from their store at http://store.caig.com/ but there is a $25
minimum. Other places sell it but one can of each will come to a bit over
$25 and used properly will last through the lifetime of your grandchildren.
Sorry to have posted information when it seems to really irritate some old
codgers on the reflector and I said I wouldn't.

*Hello Bob,*
* Where do you purchase Cramolin these days? My supplier
told me that the EPA had caused it to be pulled from the market because it
contained 47% Trichlorotrifluroethane. I find that DeOxit works, but one
formula in their line uses Naptha as the solvent. This is Not Good for
some
switches made of plastic. I clearly remember when TV sets changed from
Real
Tuners, with channel strips, to Rotary Encoder/Switches. That good old
Tried and True tuner spray which had been used for decades, sure would
mess
an Encoder/Switch Up. To reword my question, can Cramolin still be
purchased with a professional license?*

I agree with Jim. Having repaired several of the Omni VI series, the
areas
of concern are the connectors that are used between boards and with the
wiring harness terminations. Carefully unplug each, inspect around pins
with a bright light and magnification to assure no solder cracks exists.
Same for the IC's in sockets on the boards. I suggest a contact cleaner
such as Cramolin. But take caution in using any cleaner "least is best".
The put things back together and exercise each connector by then
unplugging
it again and re-inserting it. The wiping process cleans the pins, both
male
and female.
You can check the data going to the LED displays all the way to the
segment
of the LED to see if there is a failure of the LED device or if a failure
exists elsewhere. I am not a proponent of changing parts to see if that
fixes a problem. I much prefer to spend the time to find the defective
part
and simply replace that part. The repair success rate is much higher
using
this method as opposed to putting in new parts and see what happens.
I've
found too many times that folks put in new, but defective parts, or make
solder errors which introduce added problems.
