I feel your pain .............. BUT !!

Computers and RADIOS get old and the chip industry has moved on! Same for old TV sets! That is why the term BOAT ANCHORS came into use :-) In the process I GOT OLD TOO and this new SMD stuff is now beyond my repair skill too!

Did they narrow it down to an unobtainable chip, or just ...bad logic
board? Some obsolete chips are hard to find, but
still ...eventually...can be found

Agree. I think I'd ask TT to get VERY specific about what part failed -
not just say it's a bad board thinking that sort of reply gets them
off the hook. This problem has wider ramifications about company policy
in general. (And I should say that I am not sure about which part we
are talking about, so my comments are of a general nature.)

For instance: It's one thing to say that a rig like a
Triton has limited possibilities for final replacement because of
obsolete transistors or that it's hard and expensive to find
MRF458's for the Corsairs and others and quite another thing to trash
an entire radio because of a single failed non-RF chip - IMHO. One need
only to look at a VI brochure to see how the rig was marketed (i.e.,
with a computer ...)

TT has always been up front with their engineering and schematics and
I wonder if something is changing. I MIGHT understand proprietary issues
with custom software are involved, but hey - if I end up having that
problem with my VI+ I will guarantee TT an earful :)

So if this is the case, why should I abandon my VI+ to purchase a VII
only to have the same thing done to me again at some future time? Seems
like a good way for a company to loose customers; a company whose
followers have almost a religious devotion to them.
