To meet the National Electrical Code you need #12 stranded and that's
quite durable. For stealth you want something smaller than #24 enameled.
Called magnet wire or you unwind a high voltage transformer. My last one
used recycled #12 stranded type THWN wire from industrial wiring pulled
out of conduit. The insulation stands up good too. Can be had most
commonly in green, white, black and red, sometimes blue, yellow and orange.
