That was Leo Meyerson, W0GFQ, of Omaha, Nebraska.  His company, WRL,  
had a number of affordable radios for hams in the late 50's and  
onward.  I had a Globe Scout 680, and a WRL LA-400 linear, among  
others.  Leo's call is still active in QRZ.com.
