The frame of the PTO is cut from a bit of aluminum channel and the
inside is not exactly perpendicular to the shaft, but that's how the out
race is supported at an angle to the shaft, not quite square. The race
in my Corsair II had such a groove that the drive slipped badly,
especially at the end of the band where the spring tension is highest.
The new part had no groove. It was wear, not factory machining.

I used Dawn dish detergent (applied with an old toothbrush) to cut through
the old grease. In only one PTO did I think I saw signs of wear -- the
bearing race had a groove "worn" in it. Looking back on it, I'd bet that
was the way it was machined before Ten-Tec found it could reduce the cost of
that part by not machining the groove. Otherwise the parts have never been
necessary for me.
When rebuilding, I've found a shallow pan like a pizza pan is handy to hold
little parts, mainly the little bearings.
Before you remove the PTO, BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN WHAT WIRE CONNECTS TO WHERE
on the side of the PTO.

Subject: [TenTec] PTO Rebuild or not?
I own an Omni D that works well and enjoy using, except the PTO is
beginning
to drag. Have the kit to rebuild it, have never done a rebuild before,
but
am reasonably mechanically capable. TT tells me the price is $125 to
rebuild
it, and then of course the shipping will likely add at least another $50.
They tell me alignment after rebuild is probably not necessary.
So, appreciate advice about rebuilding/having TT rebuild it/ or avoiding
the
issue by just selling the rig, Finally, assuming I rebuild, what is the
best solvent to remove the old grease? Is Varsol ok?
