Sounds like those need an alignment as well. Perhaps a previous owner has "tweaked" the radio a bit. The Omni series radios have a very specific alignment procedure that must be followed. It does require a signal generator capable of known and accurate frequency and known output level as well as a frequency counter of known accuracy.

Diddling with the radio with unknown test equipment accuracy will likely end up with a radio performing as you indicate.

?the bpt seems to work as it should, varies the signal as it should ,except the signal STARTS off as the poor audio signal. I did notice the BPF and the fade controls do next to nothing for the audio the fade is ok ,but the BFP does nothing.... I noticed the BFP does cut the audio width from 200 to 1700 while it is in use, per the manual.? possiable the curcuit is not dropping out somehow? this seems to me the 200 to 1700? would have the no bass, tinny sound I am hearing. Ive never had a rig with a BFP before ,maybe my understanding of its use is not corect?

? after reading your comments and a few others, think you hit the problem. No
longer have a decent bench,so will see if I can hunt up the gear to go thru the
rig.

Before you leap into tweaking the BFO, see what the bandpass tuning and
alternate filter selections do for the audio quality you wish.
