How about the 635? How will an omni perform in the ham radio
environment? Too much b/g noise?

The best sounding for ESSB is the Heil PR-40, but a lot of other mics
will work well, too.
The ElectroVoice RE11, 16, 18, 20, and 27 and the AKG D222 and D224
are excellent choices. All are professional dynamic mics, and all are
available on the used market at good prices. Several major
advantages. They are directional mics, they have no proximity effect,
and they do NOT require phantom power. All are designed to fit on
standard mic stands and come with a suitable stand adapter.
