Do keep in mind that CAT 5 cables, containing 4 twisted pairs, are typically
not shielded while most CAT 6a cables do have individually shielded pairs.
CAT 6a cables do command a higher price however. I find less problems with
the CAT 6a cables than with the CAT 5 cables.
I had some ferrite donuts, O.D. 1.5" and I.D. 0.75" with a thickness of 0.5"
Exact material composition is unknown. I was able to wrap 4 turns of the
cable through the donut and secure the ends with a cable tie. These were
applied at the ports of the Linksys router/switcher and again at the radio.
I did observe reduced noise in the receiver and this seems to notably reduce
the transmit stutter.
Since most concerns are with transmit audio, I tend to look at the
difference between receive over the internet and transmit over the internet.
Largely, the difference is RF being produced at the transmitter site. This
leads me to conclude that he issue may be related to RFI which to the data
stream, looks like noise. If the noise steps on a few bits then the system
burps.

An important point Bob makes is that Ethernet is readily affected by stray
RF.
In addition to ferrites on the Ethernet cables themselves, I find that
ferrites on the power cable to routers, switches, bridges and the like are
very important as well.
It appears many units made have little resistance to RF.
Like Bob, I also find that Linksys units perform well.

I've had the radio connected to the internet for a couple of hours now.
Completed several QSO's with good transmit audio reports and pleasing RX
audio.
The laptop is a Gateway M325 X (M622UCX) running a Pentium processor 1.60
GHz with 1 Gig of RAM. Operating system is Windows XP Pro (SP-3)
The router at the radio is a Linksys model WRT110. I did find that ferrites
with about 4 turns of the CAT-5 cable configured on each end of the Ethernet
cables not only helps reduce receiver noise but seems to reduce the burps of
data on transmit.
OnePlug is configured with Compress RIP, Compress TRIP, Double TRIP, and
Lock TRIP to RIG Timing. PC mike gain is at 100%. Rig A Gain is 35% and
Speech Processor is 51%. The USB headset is a GigaWare device from RS.
I did suspend all of the automatic updates that run in the background of the
computer. Looking at the Windows Task Manager, it shows 33 Processes, CPU
usage at about 13% to 22%. The only Application running, per Task Manager,
is OnePlug.
I find that it works quite well.
