1.) Power transistors don't take poundings (at least, not without getting
even!)
2.) Have you described how you're reading the power? Peak/RMS, external
wattmeter, internal LED power meter, etc? Meters very wildly from amp to
amp, and 300W out RMS from a 500W CW amp is about right.

I followed the steps.
I kept speaking into the mic and turned down the power drive on the OMNI VI
Plus until the OVERDRIVE led on the Hercules II stopped popping on. That
point was 300 watts out on SSB. This situation only happens on SSB not on
CW. These are the only two modes I use. I want to know if this is normal?
L-7 TR-7 combo never did this. the old 3-500Zs sure took a good pounding
from me.
