I will confess some puzzlement myself.
 
I bought an O-II almost a year.  I love it.  I have not updated  the 
firmware, as it is fully functional in the modes I operate (CW, SSB, RTTY,  
PSK), and 
it beats the socks off any other rig I have ever owned.
 
Either guys work their rigs a lot harder than I do and see more faults (a  
possibility), or I am just lucky.
