When the PTO needs rebuilding, you'll notice a warbling as you tune onto a
CW signal. As it gets worse, you'll notice a warbling even once tuned in.
Until then, don't sweat it.

Jay!) I have never had a rig with a PTO, and this one has two of them.
Everything else I own uses variable capacitors or digital encoders to
tune them around the bands. I have been advised that these need
occasional rebuilding, and this was mentioned prominently in the eham
reviews. How do I know when the PTO needs rebuilding? What do I need
to look for in the way of symptoms? So far, I have had a great time
with the rig on CW, including working a KH7 on 80 meters with my humble
ground mounted vertical antenna. Sure never thought I would ever be
doing that here.
