Thanks to all for the many responses and suggestions on the problem I was having with my Orion II. The problem is now fixed, and just wanted to provide an update here. I talked to the folks at Ten-Tec, and they first sent me two capacitors to replace C6 and C7. After replacing, I still had the same problem (5V cycling on and off). Then talked with Ten-Tec again, and they sent me a complete new Power Distribution Board - A9. I replaced the original board, and all works fine now. Sorry, I don't know what exactly was wrong on the bad pwr board. I have mailed it back to Ten-Tec. The capacitors C6 and C7 on the new board were still 470 uF - 16V, but they were larger than the ones on the old board.
Thanks to all here, and to Ten-Tec Service for the help with this problem.

Thanks to all who responded with suggestions on what to look for.
I have checked the Power Distribution Board, and found that the +5V on JP2
is cycling off & on at the same rate as the xcvr cycling off & on.
Have emailed Ten-Tec Service, and waiting for a reply, probably sometime
after the weekend.
I'm hoping they will send a new Power Distribution Board to replace this
one, but they may still want the xcvr back to look at under warranty. Will
see when I hear back from them.

Tnx & 73,

Subject: [TenTec] Orion II - Power up problem

I'm having the following problem when I try to power on my Orion II:
After turning on the power switch, the xcvr cycles at about once per
second, continuously from power on to power off for as long as I leave the
power switch turned on.
For a fraction of a second, the alc light and meter light come on then go
back off in sequence with the power cycling. Also, as the lights go on &
off, I can hear the relay operating in my amplifier.
With all cables disconnected from the xcvr except the power cable, the
on/off cycling still happens.
I have measured the pwr supply voltage at 13.9V, and also tried another
power supply known to be good.

I have had the xcvr for less than 1 year, so it's still under warranty,
but trying to avoid sending it back to the factory.
Has anyone on the list had the same problem? Or have an idea what might
be the cause?

Tnx & 73,
Tim - N3XX
