Thanks, Alan, I checked the TG Electronics web site. It looks like a quality unit. The "boost during transmit" is an excellent feature. I see that it can also be set to 15 V for powering a laptop computer. How is the quality of construction?

For short excursions with the Scout, I do fine with a 7 amp-hour gel cell battery. I run the Scout at 30 watts out. Other tricks to reduce voltage drop are to tighten up and clean the power connector and replace the spring loaded fuse holder with an automotive blade type fuse holder.

I thought my Scout package was complete with all the modules, PS, bracket, and LDG Z-11 ATU. But you know all the concerns regarding having enough voltage when using batteries? Well after doing some research and balanced out building my own DC-DC voltage converter and decided on buying the package already built. Let me tell you for battery operations this is for me a MUST HAVE. Keeps the voltage at 13.8. No regrets. _http://stores.tgelectronics.org/default.htm_ (http://stores.tgelectronics.org/default.htm) I just thought I would pass along since we are on the SCOUT topic. Alan KB7MBI
