The Orion's are quite good since they have both a hardware and software noise blanker. Every kind of noise is different, but I have been very impressed with the abilities of the two separate systems. On some noise, one works and the other doesn't, on some both work, and on some neither, but in general, it works better than any rig I have used. The IMD is quite low compared to others and often, I forget I have it turned on. Unlike the notch filter, the dual AGC and S-meter react to the noise being removed the way you would expect it to.

I don't know why TT can't use the same system to make the notch work right...

Subject: [TenTec] Orion Noise Reduction Ability

Hi Folks,

I'm considering a new rig to replace my Mark V. I live in an extremely
noisy environment and have found the noise reduction capabilities of the
Mark V lacking. I've used the MFJ noise reducer to phase out some of the
crud, but I'm still not completely satisfied. Interestingly, my SGC
2020s ADSP II rig has a much better DSP solution and this leads me to
believe maybe a more advanced DSP is the way to go.

Can anyone comment on either the Orion I or Orion II's ability to defeat
wide band power line noise?

Thanks for any help!
