The era will end only when we run out of hams or run out of that old
fashioned courtesy and ham spirit that makes this hobby fun. Yes, I guess
real knobs and VFO's will be disappearing but I sure hope nice, decent folks
stick around because I need this hobby when I retire....I might well end up
being the last 520S on the air but not all of us are smart enough to work an
SDR rig although the ones I have heard sound pretty good. Just my two

Of course all this is predicated on the assumption that you are
working from your shack. Some of us do mobile and portable
operations as well. A computer controlled rig is just more gear to
lug around.
