I also use a NiMH, obtained from Radio Shack, with
good results. I replace mine about every 3 years. I
have had the power supply off for up to a few weeks
without losing the memories. DO NOT ever use an
alkaline in a Paragon unless the resistor is removed
that supplies charging current to the battery! The
alkaline will overheat and leak and cause you a lot of
grief. The manual is wrong and Ten Tec has never
changed it to my knowledge.
I suspect the charging current is very low and may
take more than a day to charge to full capacity.
