Has anyone tried or though about using 2 or 3 of the 1 Farad 10V
electrolytic capacitors in place of the battery in the Paragon? I noticed
some in a flyer I received in the mail for about $5.00 each, about 1" in dia
and 2" long.

Good question. NI-Cd cells usually charge at C/10 where C is the
capacity in amp-hours. NiMH cells usually have much higher capacity, so
the charging current can be higher. If you charge them in a NiCd
circuit, they will charge more slowly, but I don't think that is a
problem. I'll see if I can find out more.

Doesn't metal hydride and nicads charge at different rates??
Can you use hydride in place of nicads?

My book says the same thing, but I found that an alkaline battery will
leak, especially if you leave the power supply on all the time, like I
do, and the battery is continually charged. Spend the extra money on a
Nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery. I leave my power supply on
all the time, so the battery only is needed during power failures, or
when I shut down the power supply to service the rig.
