My book says the same thing, but I found that an alkaline battery will
leak, especially if you leave the power supply on all the time, like I
do, and the battery is continually charged. Spend the extra money on a
Nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery. I leave my power supply on
all the time, so the battery only is needed during power failures, or
when I shut down the power supply to service the rig.

I quoted directly from the Ten-Tec hand book. It follows:
"An alkaline battery will provide approximately 150 hours of backup power if
power is removed, otherwise the battery will last for its shelf life."
"When using a 9 volt Ni-Cad battery, the power should be turned on at least
3 to 4 hours per week to keep the battery trickle charged." I keep the PSU
on all the time as previously explained.

Subject: Re: [TenTec] Paragon Questions - My first
reguarding the back up battery. is this a rechargable setup, as was
covered
here a couple of days ago. some are rechargable and some are not, so if
you
put in a no rechargable battery in the rechargable set you will make the
battery fail and leak.. can some one update him on this particular item..
