[TenTec] cw filters in omni

Hi to the list,
I would like to use two CW filters (217 and 219) in my Omni C.  It has
positions for the 1.8 kHz (218) and 500 Hz (217) filters.  Would like to put
the 250 Hz (219) in place of the 1.8 kHz but the manual sayd the IF amp does
not have enough gain for two CW filters.  This is essentially the same reply
I got from an inquiry to TenTec service "the IF amplifier needs to be
modified."  Has anyone done this before?  Any advice and/or circuits known
to work?
