Try the Omni VI+ with a DownEast Microwave transverter on 2M. That combination will put them ALL to shame. For my CW operation, I use a 500 Hz filter in the 9 MHz IF and a 250 Hz filter in the 6.3 MHz IF.

FWIW - with a single 10 element yagi (17 ft boom) and the combination above, I hear EME signals off of the moon. No external preamp required. Add a 150 watt brick and you will find that you can make EME contacts on 2M. Of course you have to pick your times, moon location, and stations.

OK guys,

So just to fan the flames a bit, here is a very subjective , but
realitively recent test I performed during this summer. I compared my Ten
Tec OMNI 6+ running with the Ten Tec 1208 Transverter against a new Icom
756 PRO II, using my 5 ele 6 mtr beam at 45 feet and made comparisons
using weak signal sources on 6 meter ground wave, ie: a path of 250 miles
between St. Louis and Iowa. After several days of comparison tests, I felt
that the Ten Tec OMNI 6+ with transverter provided better copy
(readability) of signals in the noise than the Icom 756 PRO II.

So, fwiw (for what it's worth), put that in your pipe and smoke it !!!!
(hi hi) As another subjective comment, I've been operating 50 mhz SSB and
CW since 1963 and would say that to the best of my recollection, the OMNI
6+ with transverter is the best receiving set up I have used on the band.
The OMNI 6+ seemed to also have a more effective noise blanker with
respect to the various types of solar and man made noise found on 50 mhz.

"Hottest" = the ideal combination of all the well-known lab metrics of a
great receiver that manifests in the REAL WORLD as one that pulls the
weak
ones out of the muck where the others won't. This even includes
ease-of-use
factors. A receiver may be great if you can take five moinutes to get it
set
up and adjusted just right, but that's useless in real-world operating.
In
other words, yeah, of course it's subjective, but that's what I'm looking
for. Just... INFORMED subjective. ;-)

Hi Bill,
What do you mean by "hottest"? Most sensitive? Best strong signal
handling? Most selective? QST reviews can probably answer the most
sensitive. The other measures might be more subjective

Gang,

Here's a question I've been trying to answer for myself, so I
thought I'd throw it out there for some opinions.

What radio out there has the hottest 6M SSB/CW receiver? <<<<<

Transverters count, too, not just transceivers that come with 6M
capability built-in.

Suggestion: Back up your opinion with real-world, multi-rig,
comparative experience -- or sound technical arguments -- or
(preferably) both! Saying "I've got an Ikensu SX-66000 and I love
it!" may accurately reflect your feelings, but it really isn't much
help in the grand scheme of things. :-D
