Well...........IF I had to choose I'd keep the Paragon II. Factually, I'd almost give up my Omni VI+ before I'd give up my Paragon II. The Paragon II transmits on 60 meters and the Omni VI+ won't. Although I like the 9 MHz filters of the VI+ but don't care for the internal DSP artifacts. On the other side, the Paragon is the "shop radio" and serves a host of duties typically not critical for working weak signals in a strong RF environment. It also serves more as a piece of test equipment when a receiver is needed.

Hi Bob,

I too have both a 585 and a 586 on my desk. I had intended to carefully
compare the two, and then decide which one of them to offer for sale. I
never seem to find the time to make my careful comparison. So I expect
that I'll be keeping the 586, because it has AM TX (actually SSB with
reinserted carrier) capability and the 585 does not. Is there any other
significant difference in capability or performance between the two
rigs? If you had to choose between two 585s, or two 586s, or the
combination that you do have, what pair would you choose, and why?

Thanks,

Ken N6KB

The 585 is a Paragon. There is no such critter as a Paragon I. The Paragon
II is a 586. I have both on my desk.
