Hi Dan, Could be corrosion/ oxidation at the joints of the Butternut
antennas. They sell a product for joints called "Butter its Not" which is
copper particles in silicone grease. Clean the joints before reassembly
with Scotch Brite pad to remove corrosion, (NEVER steel wool on aluminum),
and then immediately apply Butter Its Not, and swage the joints back
together. I use this on any aluminum antenna assembly.
What does an antenna analyzer show if connected to either the vertical with
5 foot coax or to the beam, with beam aimed straight up from ground and
raised on wood stand? The HF 6 can be a bear to tune up properly.
And the little beam is worse.
GL and 73,
Stuart
