I agree Steve. If the filter were slightly different as to center frequency although still 2.4 KHz wide and the BFO was slightly down the slope on the lower side then there would be more "low end" to the audio and thus a bit warmer sound would be realized. Of course there would be a bit less high end but in the male voice there is little worthwhile energy above 1.kHz anyway.

I did some measurements on the Omni VI. Nothing below 300hz get's past the
detector. The notch and DSP are not to blame. It has to do with the position
of the BFO within the IF passband.

The ARRL measured Omni VI ssr rx audio bandwith at 1630hz, with 2.4Khz
wide filters. The bandwith is limited by active and passive
components that are always in the audio signal path.

I measured the Orion audio bandwith at 5500hz, with the bandwith
opened up to the maximum 6Khz. TT handily met their stated design
goal of giving the stock Orion fantastic ssb audio quality. Besides
the fidelity, it's generally a very non-fatiguing radio to listen to
for long periods of time because the receiver and audio chain are very
"clean."

Wonder how the Orion's SSB audio sounds compared to an Omni VI??
For some reason, to my ears, my FT990 seems to sound better than my Omni
VI
on ssb.
