The VI has a PLL that incorporates those single crystals/band in a synthesized scheme that mixes and feedsback, get divided, multiplied, phased and split, then poured into glasses and served with lemon. If your 10Mhz oscillator is doing what its supposed to, the signal fed to the LO wont let you get very far off the beaten path you put it on. Yes, sometimes one of the crystals will wander off. Yes, there is a possibility of component failure, yes, its complicated, but most of all its clever. (Im not an engineer, not even a technician, so while it was explained to me in layman's terms, I could only slap my forehead.) Folks here seem to want to blame the VCXO. Its an easy target. Dont do it. |
