Orion (and Icom units, probably) doesn't do any scanning at all.
A wideband IF signal is sampled at 8 MS/s, and its spectrum is computed.
The problem comes from the fact that samples cover only 0.2 % of time,
i.e. 4 ms out of every 2 seconds.
