Certainly, any grease substitute should be of the proper viscous nature for the clearances involved. Dow 44 is used with precision metric ball bearings and has worked on many high tolerance bearing applications. I think TT at one time used a red grease, and later the green. Many green greases are petroleum paraffin based, but might be synthetic. The synthetic greases may hold their lubricity over time better than natural grease that has this tendency to dry out and congeal. -Stuart K5KVH |
