Gang
i thought of this before I bought my Argo, and so did an article in QST
sometime ago. Since this is an open forum, a virus writer might take some
comments as a challenge, go to the rfsquared website, get the RUF files,
tinker with them, and somehow get them back on the website, and the
problems
would begin. Just a caveat that there is always a first time for anything.

Subject: Re: [TenTec] Orion Question
The risk of viruses or worms being turned loose in/on
radio(s) such as an Orion (or any other Ten Tec Flash
ROM based radios) is for all practical purposes zero.
Even though it is micro processor ans DSP based it
really is not a "computer" at all like a desktop PC
is, in fact the Orion and its predecessors are highly
specialized designs that share nothing at all in
common with a desktop PC. Additionally worms and
viruses depend on mechanisms to propagate themselves,
such mechanisms simply don't exist for any of these
radios. Worst case case thing that someone could do is
create a bogus RUF file that does strange things and
then somehow get it distributed out to a lot of end
users, an extremely unlikely scenario. Even then they
couldn't make it self-propagate from radio to radio,
so as far as a worm or virus would go it would be a
total dud. Also they would need to have a radio on
hand in order to understand how it works and to then
be able write malicious code and debug it, I can't
imagine that a virus/worm writer would make that kind
effort or investment to begin with, especially for
something so esoteric as a amateur radio transceiver.
I don't see any risk with existing worms or viruses
damaging the RFSquared supplied RUF files either,
again they are so specialized that it is very unlikely
that anyone will write a worm to even be aware of them
much less to wreak any havoc with them.

COX .049! Gee, you shudda tried the Thor .019's, circa 1947. It didn't
matter what fuel you used, they were completely odorless. You could spin
'em all
day and they wouldn't crank!
Personally, though, I think grass cutting is for horses. Aroma therapy is
the odor of a well ridden horse, mixed with leather, sweet grass hay, dust
off
the currycomb, finished off with a cold 807 taken slowly in the company of
friends.

Hi,
Many thanks for the guys who helped me out recently with this =
problem. =20
=20
I have a Pegasus 550 with built in LDG PT-11 built in tuner. Got the =
latest firmware installed 1.201. TenTec GUI 1.71b1, N4PY ver 2.08. Delta =
Loop 40m)
New Balun, feed line installed. Delta loop new last fall.
Problem: No drive on 20 meters! Will not Auto Tune, will not =
manual tune with MFJ 949E and internal tuner disabled. seems ok on 40m, =
15m and 10m although do notice on 15m with auto Tune it settles out at =
power out 50 - ref 5 - swr 1.95 I always need to tweak the autotuner. 2 =
clicks on C+ gives me 50w o/p - 0 ref - 1.00 swr.
With internal tuner disabled and o/p set to 50w. TUNE gives me:
15m - 30w o/p - 0 ref - 1.00 swr
20m - 0w o/p - 0 ref - 1.00 swr
Driving me daft it is. :) Ernie
