Jerry, Very useful and insightful comments on baluns, tuners and feeding balanced antennas! My recent field day experiment with external vs. internal balun was only a surprise in that no heating had been noted on the internal balun, and yet; the external was capable of a better match. It was a larger core, and overall beefier than the typical built in ring core. I think this showed that the external was a better transmission line balun than the factory tuner balun. Good point about matching but not delivering power to the antenna. 73, Stuart K5KVH |
