While devoting considerable resources to receiver design to provide
reasonable clarity and selectivity, manufacturers of ham radios seem to
slight the transmit function. Some rigs marketed today may have decent
receivers but also may generate substantial key clicks on CW and/or harbor
unacceptable levels of two-tone 3d-order IMD on SSB, among other faults. So
if a buying decision is based principally on how good the receiver is, a
radio amateur can still end up with a turkey.
Let's hope the Orion will be superior in both receive and transmit
characteristics.
