In my situation, it worked out this way. When I was engaged 24 years
ago, I took my fiancee along to a Christmas party for our local
Ten-X International chapter. I introduced her to my ham friends
and one of the XLYs came up to my fiancee and told her "Don't marry
a ham. Run, run now!". Another old gal piped in and said "Don't
listen to her. Hams make great husbands. They come home at night, every
night. you know where they are, you know what they are doing.
They are in the basement making wierd noises." She stuck around
and I have heard her friends comment about my wierd hobby and she
replies that "He comes home at night. I know what he's doing. Where
does your husband spend his evenings after...(bowling, softball,
or whatever...)". It always shuts them up.
She has been supportive of my hobby and has put up with some
rather silly stuff over the 23+ years of marriage. She was the
one that convinced me to go for a new Omni 6 over looking around
for a used rig of some sort. She said "Order the rig you want
the most."
Many radios have come and gone. I still keep her! :-)
