Brian,
Mine works great electrically. Mechanically the fan is not up to ETO
standards. I have had it back twice. It was SUPPOSED to be returned to me
2 day UPS with a NEW fan by today. Its WPX Friday night and I dont have it.
Ray Heaton is going to get an ear full as he promised it to me earlier this
week. What happened to the fan? Bearings went out. It sounded like a
screaming banshee. The firt time back was for a seized fan...they could not
duplicate the problem.
Gives new meaning to ...a screaming amp!
For the key down stuff...RTTY, you need the optional transformer fan.
Cost approx $40.
When the beast is a workin'...it smokes. Sure doesnt do me much good on
ETO's bench tho!
I hope someone else besides Ray reads this at ETO because I'm p****d !
Thats not easy to do when you live in Niceville, Florida!

No of course you don't Derek. There is only a problem with owning 1000
guns (or 1 gun) when the owner decided to use it improperly. Similarly,
I own a BMW M-3 capable of (they tell me) 137 MPH... it is only a
problem to others if I CHOOSE to drive that fast (which I emphatically
DO NOT.)
Finally, my Alpha 78 could put out a little over the legal limit (with a
newer set of tubes) but a) why bother when it cannot make any
significant difference toward getting a QSO; b) it would be illegal; c)
it would be dishonest in a contest.
Some people seem to have the very mistaken impression that living in a
Democracy implies some sort of inherent 'I can do whatever I please-if
I disagree with a particular law' philosophy. That is patently absurd.
The very fact that we live in a society implies a degree of
responsibility to everyone else in our society. The far right-often
associated with the philosophy above-is the very first group of people
who insist that EVERYONE ELSE respect THEIR rights and privileges. This
is the very same principle. REALLY high power denigrates the rest of us
through its flaunting of the law, and I will oppose that behavior in
every way I can, every time I can.
This was not aimed at you personally-I know you said you were reflecting
some others' thoughts-I just wanted to get it said. Thanks for your
comments, and 73.

Well Tom since you insist... whenever I have a QSO I always reduce
power-if it was the Alpha 78-if I get something over 5x9... if I don't,
I figure he isn't hearing me all that well to begin with and maintain.
It did not take getting out of the third grade to be able to reason that
out. Try it some time OM.
