Subject: More Taxes!!!

|A new regulation that the FCC is quietly working on will directly
|affect you as the user of a computer and modem. The FCC proposes
|that users of modems should pay extra charges for use of the
|public telephone networks which carry their data. . . .
This looks like the latest resurgence of the "Modem Tax" urban
legend, which arises not quite as often as the Blue Star Tattoo or
the Dave Rhodes chain letter, but pretty often.
Until you get an FCC docket number and an attached proposal, I'd wait
and see and DON'T redistribute this message.

Had a good time...never heard a DE, NV, or ND station...guess they
were all playing with the NAQP and did want to play on Sunday. VE8NC
was a nice surprize. Did any one work the Maritime providences? I didn't
hear any of them or a Yukon station.
Minutes before the contest was going to end a really weak station called. I
was about to hit F1, saying to heck with the weak ones but his call
gibberish seemed different. So I asked for a repeat, back came S92ZM!
He gave me a s/n of 4, so I guess that not many of us got him. Goes to
show you have to work the weak ones too!
Thanks all for the Q's,
Jim, WA6SDM

My logs are at home but I think I worked two of them. I called a VE9
and I had a VE1 call me on 15.

1. In reading the NAQP results that are flowing in, it seems that more
than a few are only entering "part-time" scores. I dont know if this is
common, but sure would like to know how many of the NAQP entrys were
not full time. In a 12 hour contest, if lots of entrys are only for
several hours, that seems to indicate that (many, several, some, few)
might be interested in a non-full-time entry. People seem to be reporting
their scores and HOW MANY HOURS they operated. I owuld like to see contest
reporting with HOW MANY HOURS (such as in SS) reported. How about you?
2. Picked up an ALPHA DELTA DX-A 160-80-40 TWIN SLOPER at a flea market.
Im in the city with hieght limit of 50', and have a G5RV hanging from my
45'tower as an inv V style antenna, which I tune on 40 and 80. IS IT WORTH
MY WHILE TO PUT UP THE ALPHA DELTA instead of the G5RV? ANyone used one
of these? Is it a "real" antenna? or hype?. thanks..... K7SS Danny

Subject: NAQP CW, new software used
My first NAQP. What a great contest! The low power limit makes
it all very "civilized." It's also easier on the ears.
QST says the power limit is 150W, but the NCJ rules say 100W. Which
is it? (I know it's only 1.7 dB, but we might as well get this
straight).
Can logs be sent via email to KZ2S? Which Internet address should
we use?
I used WriteLog for Windows(tm) by W5XD, running it all under OS/2
2.1. A full review will be submitted to the NCJ, but for now let me
say that any program that lets me use two radios easily, that sends
perfect CW under OS/2 2.1, and that helps me log over 700 QSOs,
deserves more attention. There are some enhancements that would make
it much easier to use, but the code itself seems very solid (no
crashes or hangs or anything close). The time spent building the
optional one-chip outboard keyer was well worth the effort.

300 q's x 110 mults - 33,000
Worked about 5.5 hrs. Yes I would like to see operating time reported.
Started about 6pm and didn't scarf my son's tree house to support my A3 so
10 q's on 20. Guess that hurt my multiplier totals. I was surprised that
my 40/80 inverted V @ 35' let me have more Q's on 80 than 40. Also thanks
to the 23 stations that heard that antenna on 160. Those are my first 160
qsos ever. Anybody have any ideas for a semi-permanent 160 antenna (rental
house restricts my options) on a lot that barely supports an 80 inv V. The
back leg gets attached to a tree in the park behind the house on contest
nights! Always enjoy this contest.

I like the Sweepstakes (and whatever other contest) listings that list
the hours of operation. I'd like to see this for all contests, though I
suspect that many would consider it a waste of space in the magazines
for contests as short as the NAQP.
