Those of you that have a FT-1000D and consider the cooling system fan too loud
may want to review this page:

It has been posted by K6JRF, and is actually part of a larger project. It
appears the fan slow speed is too slow and
high speed is too fast. I added the 680 ohm resistor to increase the slow
speed and now find it rarely going into
high speed mode. I also found that most of my noise was caused by dust that
had collected on the fan had
taken it out of balance. Careful lubricating it, there's not much to lube.
