Jim, enclosed please find the version 6.00 binary file. You need to program
a 27256 EPROM and insert it to the FT1000D. Then the serial link works fine.

A search shows that this subject was raised last time in 2001 but it is
unclear to me how to obtain the upgrade.
An e-mail to Yaesu, so far, has not been responded to.
Mine, which I recently acquired, is of 1991 vintage.
The W8JI, Inrad roofing filter and K6JRF fan mods have been installed or
performed.
Can anyone shed some info on this?
In trying to get the CAT System to function, it appears that it is not
compatible with the existing firmware in the radio as indicated by other
sources.
Thanks in advance.

Jim,
Which version of ROM does your FT-1000D use? Hold the 1.5 and 7
buttons while turning on the radio. This will perform the "Las
Vegas" test and display the firmware version.
Firmware version 6.0 is the latest available for the unit.

If you have Firmware version 6., try adding a 1.5 K resistor from
serial out (pin 2 of the CAT DIN) to ground. The FT-1000D (and
FT-990) use an open emitter transistor to drive SO. It does not
include a "pull down" resistor. The input of many TTL to RS-232
converters (including the ARRL Handbook design) that use 7407 TTL
buffers are not pulled down well enough to be reliable. The
"missing" pull down is independent of the firmware version. At
some point, Yaesu began adding the pull down to production units.

If you need new firmware, forget e-mail and call Yaesu parts at:
(714) 827-7600.

Anybody know when the folks at Yaesu stopped producing the FT1000D (and the
non-D)? I have heard that Yaesu has very little inventory of parts to
repair these radios. If this is true, all you guys that are extolling the
virtues of the FT1000 might change your tune huh?

A classic radio like the FT1000 will have SOMEONE repairing them for the
next 25 years, at least. There will always be parts rigs. I guess people who
think the only repair source is Yaesu would be concerned. 73, Paul K4PDM
