This is a nice debate.
The FT-1000 series are all nice radios. But I will
have to place my vote for the 'D'. I have a 'D' that
was purchased from a Ham's widow and tried to be used
on CB. CB'er thought it was bad 'cause it wouldn't
do 200W on AM without distorting. Even a CB'er couldn't
damage it, but it took a complete dismantle, cleanout and
alignment to get it right. I have installed the Inrad
roofing filter plus a couple of other mods. It is one of
the
last HF radios that can actually be worked on. Yaesu will
most likely support it for a long time since they sold a
ton
of them worldwide. One other point of interest is the
Amateur
Electronic Supply web page. AES sells used gear for a
long time
a knows the market. There is ALWAYS some form of a '1000D
on
the AES used list and is the most expensive radio on it.
BTW....Don't leave any of the 1000 series radios on an
antenna
during a lightning storm. NEVER try out a FT-1000 series
radio
unless you plan on buying one. You will be spoiled.
Debate on...........
