Dick , Robin
I have that tuning mod installed on my FT1000D and it really works. As
it comes from the factory, the tuning rate of the rig is quite fast,
specially if you do a lot of cw with narrow filters on. I installed it
about a month of having the radio ( is about 4 or 5 years old) and have
not had any problems with it. I installed the 2 options, for both
tuners.
The only rare thing that my radio does is that when I turn it on and try
to move the main tune knob it will only tune to the 1st decimal the
second will not move, but by moving a little bit the secondary tuner
knob, it clears and operation is normal. Both tuning knobs change the
rate of tuning depending how fast you move each one. Really is a clever
an nice option to install. Installation is easy.

International Radio's web site can be found at http://www.qth.com/inrad
although I don't think they have anything for the FT-1000D.
