You're moving so much stuff around it is difficult to tell what may be the
source of the problem. Is this your first attempt to use the F keys to play
wav files or have you ever had it going on an earlier version? What is your
operating system? As mentioned earlier, WL will run fine when installed in
C:\Program Files. If you have Vista, Win7 or Win8 and have UAC enabled you
will have to contend with the Virtual Store path, but that isn't a big deal.
First of all make sure your writelog.ini file shows the correct path to your
wav files. They can be anywhere on your machine, not just in the WL
directory, but the path has to point to the correct location. I have a
separate directory for my various contest wav files as shown in my
[Configuration] section of writelog.ini
WaveFileLocation=C:\Users\AL9A\Documents\WriteLog\WaveFiles
These wav file names MUST be of the form <msgn.wav>, where n is the number
of the F key you want to play the message. You cannot name them <CQ.wav> or
<RPT.wav>, etc. They must say <msgn.wav>.
Now go to the WL programs group at Start/Writelog V11 and click on Sound
Board Mixer Control. Make sure you have correctly identified the sound card
drivers on your system for "xmit from PC", "DVK mic" and "rec to PC". If
you make any changes here you will have to exit WL if it is running and
restart it for the changes to take effect.
In your WL contest module make sure your radio is in USB or LSB. Now go to
Setup/Ports and make sure the DVK type is set to "Windows sound board". On
the list of tabs at the top of the WriteLog Options window click on the
"Sound board" tab and then the Wave File Locate... button. Use the Windows
Explorer window that opens to navigate to the path where your wav files are
installed. This must be the same path identified in your writelog.ini file
as above. When you get to the folder containing the wav files, click on any
of the wav files to select the complete path for WL.
Now put your radio on a dummy load and try to send an F key message. If it
doesn't send yet, try what Joe recommends below and hit Shift+Fn to enter
Record on the Fly mode. Say something into the mic to record a message into
that memory location and hit ESC when done. Check your folder of wav files.
If there is a wav file named <MSGn.wav> in upper case then RTF worked as WL
names the files it creates in upper case. Now try to play that F key
message. If that one plays and your other messages do not, then there is a
conflict in the wav file parameters that you recorded that WL doesn't like.
If there is no new <MSGn.wav> file then the RTF method didn't work. It
sometimes depends upon the capabilities of you sound card.
What did you use to create your wav files? I use Audacity, a free program
on the internet, that has much more power than the Windows Sound Recorder.
In Audacity I have my Default Sample Rate set to 22050 Hz and the Default
Sample Format set to 16-bit. WL works well with these wav file parameters,
BUT you must be certain that ALL wav files have the same Sample Rate and
Sample Format or WL will not be able to play some of them.
Let us know how you make out. I will be out of town and away from my
computer until next Tues., but will try to catch up on your progress then.

Are the wave files in the right format? There are some specific
requirements (I'd need to look them up to be sure). I would use
WriteLog's Shift-Fn capability to record them so they are in the
correct format. Also be sure WriteLog thinks you're in a voice
mode of it will not play *any* wave files.
