I have that setup. No, you cannot do rig control and keying over the same
RS232 line. The only rig that will do that, to my knowledge, is the K3. I
still key out of LPT1 with a transistor level shifter - I prefer old
operating systems on dedicated computers for logging. You can also key out
of a USB port with some level shifting. Or buy an interface box/keyer.

Subject: [WriteLog] FTdx5000 keying setup question
I'm helping a friend interface his FTdx5000 to Writelog. I am not
familiar with the rig. He is able to connect to the rig, display
frequencies, and change modes/bands etc. Now he would like to use
Writelog for sending stored CW messages via the function keys. Does he
need a separate RS232 port w/a transistor interface to the key jack, or
will the rig key via software commands over the existing serial line? If
it will, what are the appropriate port setup parameters to use? We have
tried PC generates, and checking the CW radio button on the rig line,
but no joy.
Thanks & 73
